Convert Photo to Text

To convert a photo to text, add a JPG, PNG, or WEBP image to the Image to Text Converter, select Extract text, then edit, copy, or download the result. For a phone photo, first decide whether the image is ready to extract, should be cropped, or should be taken again.

The extract, crop, or retake decision map

This three-way choice avoids a common dead end: repeatedly extracting the same photo when the text problem is already visible in the image.

1. Extract now when the text is large enough to read, the page is mostly flat, and no bright reflection crosses important letters. Add the photo and review the editable result.
2. Crop first when the text you need occupies one part of a larger photo. Crop away the background, a second column, decorative graphics, or unrelated labels. Then extract the tighter photo.
3. Retake the photo when the exact text is hidden by glare, bent around a curve, out of focus, or too small to inspect. Move the light or camera rather than relying on text extraction to recreate missing characters.

A two-image check for important text

If a number, address, price, name, or code matters, keep the original photo open while you edit the result. If one area is difficult, add a second, closer crop of only that area. The queue keeps both image results separated by filename headings, so you can compare the wide photo with the close-up before copying all text.
